Summer Eco Craft Club
3rd August 2010 - 6th August 2010
During the summer holidays, children visiting the Westgate Centre could learn about environmental issues while enjoying fun activity workshops in our Eco Craft Clubs.
Tuesday 3 August, 11am-4pm
ANTI-CARBON FOOT PRINTS WORKSHOP
Children stepped into a piece of natural air hardening clay to leave an impression of their foot (or hand). They were then invited to decorate an old shoe box and place their 'footprint' into it. An activity sheet was given out to children teaching them what a carbon footprint is and how to reduce it at home.
Friday 6 August, 11am-4pm
BEE HOUSE WORKSHOP
Children made a 'bee house' out of bamboo, which can then be hung in the garden or from a window sill to encourage the many species of solitary bee to have a safe refuse near your home. The 'bee house' was decorated to look like a giant bumble bee and will brighten up even the dullest of gardens. An activity sheet was also given to children with bee-themed games and to teach children what different plants to grow to encourage the bee population.
All workshops are free of charge and will take place in the main promotions area in front of Esquires Coffee House. The Eco Craft Clubs are not supervised playschemes - parents are asked to stay with their children and join in the fun.
