Stevenage Christmas Lights Switch On
26th November 2009
Stevenage’s Christmas Lights Switch-on this Thursday is set to be a night to remember! There’s a sensational line-up of live music, games and competitions on stage from 4pm.
Julia West, female group TORA, Elsa Chapman and Diversity-style dance duo Double Trouble will all be performing, as well as special guest star Scott Robinson, former member of the boy band 5IVE! 5IVE obtained international success in a career spanning 5 years and had 13 single hits including three Number 1’s, 4 albums, and numerous awards including the Brit for Best Pop in 2000, an MTV Europe award in 1998 and over 17 million in sales.
Scott will be performing a medley of 5IVE’s greatest hits live on stage, before being joined by the Mayor of Stevenage, Cllr Sue Myson, Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, and Vicky Tiffin for the BIG TURN-ON at 6.30pm.
There will be plenty of audience participation on stage, with a chance to win some great prizes too, and fingers crossed that the weather stays fine so that the planned firework display can light up the night sky!
Face painting in The Entertainer and Wilkinson, sponsor’s of this year’s event, plus free balloons and sweets, Santa’s Sleigh and funfair rides all add up to a spectacular evening for the whole family. Don’t miss it!

Shops will be open until 8pm on the night of the Switch-on, so there’s plenty of opportunity to stock up on some Christmas shopping, and parking in the town centre car parks is FREE after 5pm! The Christmas Lights Switch-on marks the start of late night shopping in the town centre every Thursday until 17 December and Stevenage Borough Council is spreading some Christmas cheer this year by offering shoppers more free car parking every Thursday evening.
